The Ways to Work – Family Loan Center
San Mateo, CA
(650) 403-4300 extension 4100
Helping families become financially self-sufficient.
In 1997, Family Service Agency of San Mateo County was the first organization in California selected to launch this national demonstration project. The program provides low-interest car loans to low-income parents who do not have access to conventional credit, giving these families the ability to maintain self-sufficiency and employment. Families can rise above poverty when they receive the help they need and reduce their reliance on public assistance.
- Budget and goal setting classes teach families to plan and build for the future and create realistic action plans that help parents succeed in repaying the loan.
- Private banking partners manage loans, which teaches families how to obtain future loan and credit.
- Parents improve their credit when loan is repaid.
Ways to Work – Family Loan Program has been praised for being innovative, successful and using best practices in allowing low- income families to obtain and maintain employment and in dealing with critical situations that may affect their economic and family stability.
