In 1991, Family Service opened a site to facilitate the court-ordered visitations between non-custodial parents and their children and supervise the transfer of children between parents. The center has now become a state-of-the-art, nationally recognized program that provides a variety of services for families experiencing divorce or separation. The Center is designed to provide services in a comfortable and safe environment.
Visitation Services:
- Standard Supervised Visitation safely maintains the contact between parent and child in cases of suspected or actual domestic violence, substance abuse or neglect and includes emotional and physical interventions by trained supervisors.
- Supportive Supervised Visitation provides a visiting parent individualized coaching to learn and improve parenting skills. This supplements articles, books, videos and other materials from the resource library.
- Therapeutic Supervised Visitation helps parents and children establish or rebuild damaged relationships.
Many families also participate in educational and therapeutic counseling sessions teaching healthy parenting and parent-child relationships.
- Safe Exchanges provides a safe, child-friendly place for parents to transfer their children safely without having contact with one another.
- The Kids in the Middle program is a six-hour parent education class for divorcing or separating parents from all walks of life. Parents learn the skills needed to care for their children during and after their divorce or separation and how to keep their “kids out of the middle.” Course satisfies the San Mateo Family Court for those parents with visitation or custody disputes.
